BLACK ROCK CITY AIR FORCE

PLAYA PATROL kicking ass

Mutant Vehicle: Black Rock City Air Force
Registration #: M12-0303
Owners: Sean McMichael, Kelly (Cleo) McMichael, Sedona McMichael

Support: Brian Winters, and Camp Shady Acres/Pink Mammoth

Pictures like these above were used for me to redraw to a scale that would work for my wife, child, and myself. (2.5 people).

Above are some of the many many drawings.

I plan to use the engine and transmission of this ride-mower...nothing else.

Starting of the conduit tube frame

Lots of tubes!

Tube frame, drilled screwed, and tach-welded.

Some metal square tube welded to the mower frame.

Above is a BMW R1100GS front end mated to the frame I have made. This will allow front suspension and steering.

The front end is done....and works great!

Starting the tube frame of the nose.

Inside the nose.

Adding more shaping for the body of the plane.

The nose is being attached to the body.

Some shaping and fiber glass added to the nose.

Mocking up the wings to get a good view of the plane.

Fabricating the rear end. Original plan was to have rear suspension but, quickly running out of time. Will put this off till next year.

Another mock up of the wings to get a good view of the plane.

The plane is now on its own three wheels. Rolls very easily, I was very surprised.

Rear end of the plane was attached again, just to get a good view of the over all project.

The plane was removed from the trailer, and set aside of the rv. More work will be needed to be done to the plane before it can be licensed for BRC.

Cutting, grinding, welding....and in the middle of random dust storms!

More metal welded on to the frame and the vertical tail added.

We're at the BRC DMV to get our "Day Time License.

The day time License!

Out cruising around. Here we are in front of "Wall Street".

A photo in front of the man.

Here we are in front of center camp looking toward the man (and "12 O'clock").

I have to thank my wife (Cleo) and daughter (Sedona) for all the help. The help meaning daddy was allowed to go play with metal in the man cave to produce this plane as of so far. There will be more added over the year. I hope to have the body covered, the engine quieter, the lighting waaaay more crazy, the wings will fold up, and the left rear wheel will stay on all week! We had a wonderful response for the first time out on the playa with the plane! I expect more fun next year!
